The Family Life Center brings together the Panhandle Mental Health Center services for children and families.

The Family Life Center seeks to be a place open to families who want information and referral. It is also a place full of activity with programs whose primary mission is to address the needs of children and families in today's challenging society.

CAMPQUEST

CampQuest is a therapeutic summer camp for emotionally, behaviorally and/or learning disordered children.

It strives to educate children on care and respect for the community and concern for the environment. It develops better judgment, greater self-discipline and higher self-esteem through accomplishments.

It challenges the campers intellectually, physically and emotionally.

There are four two-week sessions for children ages 9-14.

PROGRAM FOR ALTERNATIVE LEARNING

The Program for Alternative Learning is a six hour a day, five days a week treatment service/alternative school.

The capacity is twelve youth ages seven through thirteen. Younger youth may be considered on an individual basis.

PAL offers therapeutic teaching, social skill and coping skill training, group therapy, individual therapy and family counseling as needed.

It is based on a four tiered level system and utilizes extensive behavior monitoring, contracts, goal agreements, and a behavioral modification reinforcement structure to improve the student's emotional, behavioral and academic functions.

Family involvement and support are important to success in this program. Reintegration to public school is the goal.

The students progress through the program at their own rate and may be involved with PAL over the course of a year or two.

Referrals are made by families, therapists and schools. Acceptance depends on agreement to the placement by the student's public school and the prospective student's willingness and ability to "work" the program.

All students in PAL are verified as needing special services through the school's Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process.

Inquiries and applications are made to the Family Life Center Director.
